Glass Cleaning Vise

When creating ambrotypes, it's necessary to remove all traces of oil and contamination from the glass plates to provide a surface on which the collodion can adhere. This usually requires a lot of scrubbing, and an ability to hold the plate without reintroducing contaminants through handling. This vise is designed to firmly hold glass plates up to 8x10 inches for cleaning and micro-abrading with a mixture of alcohol and whiting. The oil free hardwood jaws are notched to accept standard glass thicknesses, making plate handling a snap. A central threaded screw makes opening and closing the vise a simple, one-handed operation.
